The Shift Coastal Technologies Story

Shift Coastal Technologies supports First Nations to bring back a way of life that was cemented in managing coastal resources sustainably. It was stripped away, but it’s now being re-defined by those communities. Shift Coastal Technologies strives to work side by side with First Nations to support them as partners, using accurate, relevant and timely information and intelligence to govern coastal resources and create value for both First Nations and non-First Nations.

Over 120 years of cumulated experience led Shift Coastal Technologies to approach coastal portfolio diversification by bridging marine resource management with modern ISR technology, creating deep meaningful partnerships with both First Nations and Ocean Technology providers. Shift Coastal Technologies’ unique craft has been honed at the intersection of coastal resource management and ocean technology by leveraging First Nation partnership opportunities with both industry and government.

Shift Coastal Technologies is a coastal resource management company and ocean technology developer that works with First Nations. Shift Coastal Technologies is not a cookie-cutter consulting and advisory firm. Our experience is real, and we know the risks and rewards first-hand because we are entrepreneurs. The Shift Coastal Technologies Philosophy

Uniquely, as a technology company, Shift Coastal Technologies believes that looking forward for a better way to do things includes looking back. In that light, we reflect on the evolution of the word “economy”, which comes from the Greek words “oikos”, meaning house, and “nemein”, meaning to manage. In the past, managing our house and our environment was based on adapting to the weather, the seasons, and the resources available. This was particularly true for traditional First Nations. A healthy economy today can grow from those same tenets, where the most resilient ecosystems, houses, families, and societies remain stable because of the endless adaptation inherent in natural systems.

In our view, diversity makes us adaptable, so stability and balance mean being open to constant change; this includes shifting our view both forwards and backwards to find answers.

We believe in a community-based approach to ocean technology, anchored in strong families and healthy communities. This has allowed Shift Coastal Technologies to see our neighbours and industry partners as brothers and sisters. This is where the true meaning of “economy” is realized and where meaningful change happens.
