Ditidaht Windsurf Park

CLIENT: Ditidaht First Nation

DATE: October 2020 – July 2021

Project Overview

The Windsurf Park—a campground located on Nitinaht Lake and part of Ditidaht—is a key part of the Unleash the Nitinaht tourism strategy for the region. It is uniquely situated as a west coast gateway to amazing trails, water sports, and old-growth forests. Upgrades to the park were completed July 2021 with trails, biking, new washrooms, gatehouse, and other amenities opening up to visitors over the course of the summer, starting with 50% capacity due to COVID and distancing rules. The Campsite Development project has clearly benefited the community, helped capitalize on a renewed sense of place, and the revitalized park is a beautiful asset to the Nation.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • $1.2 million in funding
  • 6 Full-time jobs
  • Ongoing seasonal employment
  • New roadways, water lines, and servicing for campsites
  • Spectacular Caycuse River Kayak

Early feedback to the campground operators and the DDC is that newcomers to the area, encouraged to explore the island because of reduced travel opportunities, love the sites, and the windsurfing regulars appreciate the organization and the new washrooms. DDC reports a significant increase in year-over-year revenues and is pleased with the result of their investment as well.

Shift cares about details that matter, both to the success of the project and to their clients. Shift is available, discerning and equipped to manage many layers of administration required to reach project goals that are on time, within scope and on budget.
